Building a Stronger Canopy: Unity, Community, and Supporting Our Neighbors

There is a unique kind of strength found in a community that looks out for every one of its members. Whether it’s through a shared smile at a local shop or coming together to support a vital cause, these connections are the kiln that fires the spirit of our neighborhood.

Today, that spirit of unity is taking center stage. I am so honored to be part of a beautiful, fun-packed Sunday dedicated to supporting our local community through Central MN SHYNES.

Art with a Purpose

As part of the festivities, I’ve donated a special piece from the studio: a 5-inch tall red and white stoneware mushroom. While it’s a small token, it represents the growth and resilience I see in our town every day.

The response to this event has been incredible—the benefit concert is currently sold out! While the venue is at capacity, the spirit of the day extends far beyond the concert hall. You can still participate in the mission and the fun from the comfort of your living room. The silent auction and art auction are live, and you can place your bids from anywhere! (must be local enough for pick up. Or if you win my item from out of state, you have to shoot me a message and I’ll split the shipping.)

You can find the auction and event details here:www.centralmnshynes.org

Why We Show Up

Supporting our local community is about more than just attending events; it’s about understanding the challenges our neighbors face. Currently, there are members of our community who do not feel safe leaving their homes.

There is a frequent misconception that if someone is staying behind closed doors, they must be doing something wrong. That simply isn’t the case. The reality is that ICE is active in our area, and the fear of discriminatory enforcement is a heavy weight for many of our neighbors to carry. When some of us are at risk, the entire community is affected.

How to Help

Unity means ensuring that everyone feels seen and supported, regardless of the circumstances. By supporting organizations like SHYNES, we are helping to build a safety net of resources and advocacy for those who need it most.

Even if you didn't snag a concert ticket, please consider browsing the auction online. Every bid on a piece of art or a local gift card goes directly toward making our community a more inclusive, supportive, and vibrant place for everyone to live.

Let’s look out for one another today. See you tonight!
