A Week of Waiting and Glazing

This week feels absolutely bananas. It’s been a whirlwind of unexpected heat, a new kiln setup, and a lot of waiting. My week kicked off with a major curveball—my AC unit completely died. For over a week, we’ve been living in a house that’s been hotter than a kiln firing, and just when it seemed like things were cooling off, my neighbors were already cranking on their heaters. I’m over here with my warm layers and blankets, reminding myself that it’s not even October yet!

The good news is, a new AC unit is on the way. The old one couldn’t be repaired, so it’s getting a full replacement. While that’s happening, an electrician is coming over to extend wiring into the garage. This is a game changer because my kiln is getting a new home out there, which will give me a lot more space inside.

Amidst all the home chaos, I’m also juggling my pottery business. I’m finsihing a glaze load. I’m picking up pieces from a pop-up event and then immediately shifting gears to set up for a show on Sunday. The show is going to be a great opportunity, and while it’s a lot of work, I’m excited about it. In between all the running around, my parents are coming to visit from out of state, so there's a little extra cleaning on the to-do list, but it’s manageable.

On top of all this, I decided it was finally time to get rid of my old couch and ordered some new shelving. This is a big step for me because it means I’ll finally have a proper space to store my work during the off-season. Organizing my workspace and having a dedicated storage area will make such a huge difference.

The biggest thing on my mind, though, is the waiting. I’m anxiously awaiting news about a grant I applied for. It was my first time writing a grant, so I’m really hoping to get some feedback, regardless of the outcome. I know that even if I don’t get it, this project is happening either way. There’s no choice—I’m committed to it. Still, I’m feeling like I'm doing a lot of waiting this week, and it’s driving me a little nuts. While I’m actively working on so many things, a part of me feels stuck in a holding pattern. I’m already planning to apply for more grants in the future because I'm genuinely interested in the process.

This week is a reminder that even when things feel like they’re moving a mile a minute, there's always an element of a quiet waiting game. Here's to hoping all this work and waiting pays off.
